Liam Hardy is a partner in Kirkland’s Washington, D.C. office, where his practice focuses on complex commercial and appellate litigation. He represents and counsels clients in a wide variety of matters, with particular emphasis on cases involving technology and intellectual property issues.
Prior to joining Kirkland, Liam served as a law clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court of the United States, Chief Judge David B. Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and Judge Margaret A. Ryan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Services.
Counsel to Accenture subsidiary, Avanade Inc., in litigation alleging the failed implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Won complete dismissal of all claims of fraud and negligence, and obtained successful resolution of case.
Counsel for leading engineering, procurement and construction contractor in a large commercial arbitration regarding a multibillion dollar power plant project. Obtained complete defense award for client after 19-day arbitration hearing.
Counsel to Aaroma Holdings, LLC in litigation to reverse a bankruptcy court’s findings that mass tort plaintiffs had standing to pursue generalized “mere continuation” claims against an alleged successor of debtor-in-bankruptcy. Won reversal of the bankruptcy court’s decision in district court and obtained affirmance of the district court decision in the court of appeals.
Counsel for The Boeing Company in litigation arising out of the June 3, 2012, crash of a Dana Air MD-80 in to Lagos, Nigeria.
Counsel to major defense contractor in international arbitration with foreign competitor concerning intellectual property rights to sensitive defense technology.
Counsel to multiple clients in appeals to the Federal Circuit relating to findings of patent infringement and validity.
Policy counsel to a broad coalition of American businesses lobbying Congress for comprehensive patent litigation reforms.
