Cheryl Meier is a Partner specializing in Intellectual Property with the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis, where she counsels clients with respect to business-critical patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and other intellectual property rights. In her practice, Ms. Meier leads domestic and international transactions designed to maximize the value of clients' proprietary technologies including:
Complex patent, know-how and technology licenses, technology and product design R&D agreements, trademark licenses and software agreements;
Joint ventures, strategic alliances, and other commercial contracts (including supply and distribution agreements) involving technology, branding or other proprietary contributions;
Valuation, ownership, licensing, acquisition and divestiture of intellectual property assets in connection with corporate mergers, acquisitions, private equity/venture capital and public offerings.
Agreements to secure artistic rights and licenses for music, arts and entertainment industry clients, such as copyright licenses, publicity agreements, performance venue contracts, talent agreements, and book and music publishing, recording and distribution agreements.
Ms. Meier has experience handling Fortune 100 client needs in a wide range of industries, including medical products & equipment, pharmaceuticals, household and personal products, specialty retailers, entertainment, music & media publishing, Internet services and retailing, consumer food & beverage products, telecommunications products/services, computer and electronic products, software development, advertising services and business consulting.
In 2005, Meier accepted a two-year Professorship appointment on the resident faculty at the University of Illinois College of Law, teaching courses in Property, substantive Intellectual Property, and the Licensing of Intellectual Property Assets. She remains affiliated with the College of Law as an adjunct faculty member. She has also taught intellectual property classes at The University of Chicago's Graham School of Business, Valparaiso University School of Law, and the Practicing Law Institute.Courts
