George Stamas is a senior partner in the Washington and New York offices, advising leading U.S. and international public and private corporations in planning and structuring complex business transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, buy-outs, private equity investing, fund formations, initial public offerings, and debt & equity restructurings in numerous industries including energy, finance, construction, health care, and professional sports, as well as counseling corporations and board of directors on corporate governance matters and crisis situations.

Mr. Stamas was the former Vice Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Banc Alex Brown, Inc. He is a founding board member of FTI Consulting (NYSE) and also on the board of NexCen Brands (NASDAQ). He is a venture partner of New Enterprise Associates, an international venture capital firm with approximately $10 billion under management, serves on the board of directors of Gridpoint Technologies, a leading smart grid solutions company based in Washington DC, and Medicity, Inc., an industry standard setting electronic healthcare solutions enterprise, and is on the executive board of MidOcean Partners, a middle market New York based private equity firm with approximately $3.5 billion under management.

A graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1973), and the University of Maryland Law School (1976), Mr. Stamas began his career as a special counsel in the Enforcement Division of the Securities & Exchange Commission. He has been listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America for many years and was previously named by The American Lawyer as one of the leading 45 lawyers in America under the age of 45.

Chambers 2009 survey of corporate executives and general counsel stated that Mr. Stamas is "an extraordinary negotiator who meets problems head on in a pragmatic manner.'" In the Chambers 2008 survey he is described as "brilliant in a crisis" with "a knack for finding middle ground when issues get contentious," and who is "hard to match in his creativity and his knowledge of the law," and is deemed a "hugely prominent presence in the private equity sphere." Chambers 2007 noted "in his 30 years of legal practice, he has seen it all."

Mr. Stamas is active in numerous local and national civic affairs.  In addition to being a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he is on the board of the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Leadership 100, Caves Valley Golf Club, the Baltimore Orioles, the Washington Capitals, and is an Archon of the International Order of St. Andrew.
