Jennifer Cowen is a litigation partner in Kirkland's Chicago office. She focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation in federal and state trial courts.
Jennifer's cases have involved claims in the areas of antitrust, securities, contracts and fraudulent transfer, as well as other bankruptcy-related disputes. She has also worked on numerous pro bono matters, including serving as lead trial counsel in a four-day custody proceeding that resulted in a ruling for her client on all issues.
Representative Matters
Dahl. v. Bain Capital (D. Mass): Defending Bain Capital against claims of collusion brought against multiple firms in private equity industry concerning certain multibillion dollar leveraged buyout transactions from 2003 to 2007.
Wallach v. Eaton Corp., et al. & In re Class 8 Transmission Indirect Purchaser Antitrust Litig. (D. Del.): Defending truck manufacturer Navistar, Inc. against claims of conspiring with other truck manufacturers and transmission manufacturer Eaton Corp. to monopolize transmission market.
Tronox v. Anadarko (Bankr. S.D.N.Y.): Counsel to Tronox in multi-billion dollar fraudulent transfer lawsuit challenging spin-off of Tronox from former parent Kerr-McGee. Case pending after four-month bench trial.
Minneapolis Firefighters' Relief Assoc. v. Medtronic, Inc.(D. Minn.): Counsel in putative class action alleging violations of federal securities laws. Case favorably settled.
Solae, LLC v. Hershey Canada Inc. (D. Del.): Won dismissal of declaratory judgment action brought against Hershey's Canadian subsidiary by supplier of salmonella-tainted ingredients.
DAG Petroleum Suppliers, L.L.C. v. BP p.l.c.(E.D. Va.): Counsel to BP parties in case alleging business conspiracy and race discrimination. Summary judgment granted in favor of BP defendants on all counts and affirmed by Fourth Circuit.
