Chris Kallos is recognized internationally as one of the top U.S. attorneys in the area of private investment fund formation and management. As a leader of Kirkland's Private Funds Group, he has been instrumental over the course of two decades in developing Kirkland's industry-leading global practice.
Chris is known for his "outstanding depth of experience in fund formations, spinouts and operations" (Chambers Global - 2013). He has advised "a range of major private equity firms" (Chambers USA - 2009), as well as emerging managers, in connection with forming more than $50 billion of buyout, growth equity, debt, secondary, venture, technology, real estate and other funds ranging in size from $100 million to over $6 billion.
Chris also counsels fund sponsors on a wide variety of operational issues and extraordinary events, including key person events, succession planning, spin-outs, strategic investments in fund management companies, executive retention, change of control transactions and conflict resolution.
In recommending Chris as an "exceptional" practitioner (The Legal 500 U.S. - 2013), clients praised his "excellent commercial judgment" (Chambers USA - 2011) -- noting that "he really cuts through to the problem and finds a solution" (The Legal 500 U.S. - 2009).
In addition to his sponsor-side private funds work, Chris represents select limited partners in connection with their fund investments and internal operations, and oversees transactional, litigation, estate planning and other matters on behalf of his fund-sponsor and other clients.
