The Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs honored Kirkland with an Outstanding Achievement Award for pro bono work with the committee's Disability Rights Project during the annual Wiley A. Branton Awards luncheon. The Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs was established in 1968 to provide pro bono legal services to address discrimination and entrenched poverty in the Washington, D.C., community.
