Chad McCormick Joins Kirkland to Launch Office’s Tax Practice Group

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Chad McCormick has joined the Firm as a partner to help build the Houston office’s Tax Practice Group.

“Chad has significant experience advising on the tax aspects of a variety of complex transactions,” said Andrew Calder, a partner in Kirkland’s Houston office and a member of the Firm’s Global Management Executive Committee. “He is an important addition in Houston, enhancing our ability to fully support transactions from the office and helping solidify Kirkland’s local roster in Texas. His experience on energy-related transactions in particular is also a nice complement to our existing top-tier national tax practice.”

Mr. McCormick advises clients on tax-efficient structures for domestic and cross-border mergers & acquisitions and separations. He also advises clients on tax aspects of capital markets transactions, financing arrangements and matters regarding S corporations, partnerships and other pass-through entities.

He joins Kirkland from the Houston office of Baker Botts LLP, where he was a partner.

Mr. McCormick holds an LL.M. in taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law; a J.D., with honors, from the University of Montana School of Law; and a B.A., with highest honors, from Montana State University. Thomson Reuters has recognized him as a “Texas Super Lawyer-Rising Star” for the past two years.

Mr. McCormick is the third Houston partner to join Kirkland in 2016. Anna Rotman was hired in January to launch the Houston office’s Litigation Practice Group and Adam Larson joined earlier this month to build upon the office’s M&A capabilities. The Houston office opened in 2014 and has grown to include approximately 60 lawyers who work across practices and offices within the Firm.
