Chambers & Partners has compiled their independent and objective list of America's Leading Lawyers for Business based on comments gathered from thousands of interviews with clients and lawyers from Maine to Hawaii. This guide -- which is designed to reflect market opinion -- contains a view of the firms and attorneys who are considered leaders in their field.

In Chambers' 2007 review of national legal talent in the area of "Corporate/M&A," our Firm and our lawyers are listed among the best in the country.

Chambers' comments:

National Ranking: 3

The Firm: This firm is nationally and internationally renowned for its work on fund formations, LBOs and equity investments on behalf of weighty clients. It continues its march into the national limelight thanks to the volume and high caliber of attorneys and deals undertaken. The “extraordinarily good” team is a fixture on the biggest consortium deals. Clients point to an incredibly responsive group that "will do whatever is necessary to accommodate our needs.” The firm has also made great inroads into the M&A market. In this talented M&A group, Carter Emerson stands out for his “skilled, calm and even-handed manner.”

New York Ranking: 4

The Firm: This “highly skilled” firm is a strong force in the private equity domain and, as such, has benefited from increased levels of private equity in the M&A market. Though less renowned for its general corporate work, clients rate the team for its ability to supply broad services for a public deal. Collectively the corporate lawyers here are described as “delightful people to work with,” garnering praise for “always keeping the clients in mind.” Clients that particularly rate its expertise at litigation and bankruptcy also admire the firm’s “effective” cross-departmental approach.

The Lawyers: Stephen Fraidin is a “high-quality” practitioner who is acclaimed for his long experience in the market. A “super, super lawyer,” he is especially valued for his supervision over a range of transactions.

Clients/Work Highlights: The firm represented Myogen in its $2.5 billion sale to Gilead. It acted for Citadel Broadcasting in Disney's $2.7 billion proposed merger of its ABC Radio division with Citadel. It also represented Alpharma in the $810 million cash sale of its human generics unit to Icelandic drugmaker, Actavis Group.
