Another giant in this area, Kirkland & Ellis, benefits from a blue-chip clientele that includes the usual suspects in water litigation -- petroleum, chemical and large manufacturing companies. A combination of well-forged expertise in complex litigation, environmental knowledge and business sensitivity enables it to provide advice that ranks “among the best” on water quality disputes. Clients also appreciate its ability to handle “the politics of joint defense” that often crop up in the more high-stakes lawsuits. Attorneys here have to be able to battle against “a sophisticated and well-financed opposition,” sources said. Andrew Langan is a “good strategic thinker” who has won over clients and peers alike.
