Chambers & Partners has compiled their independent and objective list of America's Leading Business Lawyers based on comments gathered from thousands of interviews with clients and lawyers from Maine to Hawaii.   This  guide -- which is designed to reflect market opinion -- contains a view of the firms and attorneys who are considered leaders in their field.

In Chambers' 2003-2004 review of national legal talent in the area of "Real Estate," our Firm and our lawyers are listed among the best in the country.

Chambers' comments:

Illinois
Ranking: 6

The Firm: Although not historically one of the firm's stronger suits in Chicago, the real estate department has recently built a reputation for its "sophisticated" work in the less traditional real estate arenas of equity funds and corporate ventures.  A substantial proportion of the workload involves the formation of investment funds, representing institutional investors in joint ventures between institutional investors and public real estate companies, and acting for REITs.
The Lawyers: Steve Tomlinson won praise from peers as Chicago's leader in the equity funds arena, having "picked his market and specialized in it."  He has recently acted for CenterPoint Properties Trust in the formation of a joint venture for the development of a $100 million industrial campus, and acted on behalf of a corporate pension fund on the acquisition of a $200 million downtown Chicago property.
The Clients: The firm acts for Jones Lang LaSalle, Transwestern Investment Company and Walton Street Real Estate Fund among others.
