Corporate Scorecard
In April 2001, The American Lawyer identified the biggest national corporate deals of 2000 in its annual "Corporate Scorecard." Kirkland & Ellis' involvement as counsel on several of these deals earned it outstanding marks in the following areas:
- Kirkland & Ellis took the #1 spot in the "Private Equity-Backed LBOs" category. Kirkland served as acquiror's counsel in 12 issues during 2000, a year that saw a tapering off from the record-breaking LBO boom of the 1990s.
- Kirkland & Ellis was also recognized for its representation in one of the "Top Five REIT Mergers" of 2000. Kirkland placed second in this category as target's counsel in the $3.4 billion Urban Shopping Centers, Inc./Rodamco North America N.V. REIT merger.
- Named as debtor's counsel in one of the "Top 10 Bankruptcies Concluded" in 2000, Kirkland & Ellis garnered fifth place for its representation of the $1.8 billion-asset food distribution company, AmeriServe.
- In the "U.S. Equities (Excluding IPOs) Issuer's Counsel" category, Kirkland & Ellis ranked number twelve by number of issues.
