Illinois Ranking: Tier 3

Kirkland & Ellis is known as "a powerhouse for corporate matters," due to its thriving private equity-based practice. The real estate group upholds this reputation, focusing on private equity and bankruptcy work. "Versatile, thoughtful and tireless," Robert Buday's practice is indicative of the group's: he concentrates on real estate private equity work, primarily the formation of joint ventures. Buday recently represented General Motors Investment Management in the formation of a joint venture with Kingbeil Capital Management, and has handled several matters on behalf of CenterPoint Properties Trust. Although senior member Stephen Tomlinson is now resident in the firm's New York office, he continues to work closely with the Chicago team.
