Kirkland is one of six law firms named as "standouts" in the Litigation Outlook 2011 report by The BTI Consulting Group Inc., which surveyed 240 corporate counsel.

"Representatives at the other standout firms pride themselves on their client service initiatives. At Kirkland & Ellis, every associate must build his expertise by participating in a mock trial every year, and the Firm even hires unemployed actors to play the parts of witnesses, said Jay Lefkowitz, a senior litigation partner.

'A trial is all about telling a story to a judge or to a jury, and you have to develop a narrative,' he said. 'You have to understand the objectives and the narrative from day one, and build your case, marshal your facts and be responsive to clients.' "
