Public Service Fellowships
The Kirkland & Ellis New York City Public Service Fellowships at Columbia Law School and New York University School of Law were established in 1995. The Firm made a gift of $1,000,000 to New York University School of Law and Columbia Law School to provide one outstanding student from each school each year the opportunity for a year of post-graduate public service in New York City. The Fellowships are intended to put recent law school graduates to work meeting serious human needs in the New York City community. Kirkland & Ellis Fellows may create and fill a new position within an already-existing public service organization or pursue an independent public service project affiliated with a sponsoring organization. In either case, the Fellow and sponsoring organization must be based within the five boroughs of New York City, and the Fellow's project must principally and directly benefit New York City residents. The Firm is committed to a broad and inclusive concept of public service.
