Walter Lohmann leads the Firm's Environmental Transactional Practice Group. Since 1987, his practice has focused on managing environmental compliance and liability issues as they arise in the context of corporate and real estate transactions, both in the U.S. and around the world including conducting or coordinating environmental due diligence assessments, retaining and supervising technical experts, counseling clients on deal-related liability and risk allocation issues, drafting and negotiating contract language and pursuing post-closing resolution of issues identified in the course of due diligence. The practice extends to managing environmental due diligence and disclosure issues in the context of financial statement preparation and public securities filings, negotiating environmental insurance transactions and managing environmental liabilities in the context of corporate insolvencies.
Walt provides general environmental counseling services in a wide range of areas, including environmental compliance auditing, hazardous waste management, Brownfields, site investigation and mitigation, underground storage tanks, air quality, wastewater discharge and wetlands protection.
Walt and the Group's lawyers maintain a worldwide network of environmental consulting, insurance and legal professionals to provide clients with all necessary resources during or following their transactions. Walt's transaction-related work has included hundreds of successfully consummated deals, which have run the gamut of commercial transactions from modest venture capital investments to large, multi-national acquisitions and divestitures.
Walt has been recognized in Chambers USA, America's Leading Lawyers for Business every year from 2004-2009 as "a leading expert on the environmental aspects of transactional work."
