Kirkland opened its London office in 1994 to enhance the service provided by the Firm to existing and prospective clients in Europe. The office was initially established with two partners drawn from Kirkland's U.S. offices who relocated to London. Today, our London office consists of approximately 120 lawyers practicing English, U.S. and international law.

Corporate

The London office handles a broad range of corporate matters but is particularly active in private equity. We represent financial sponsors and private equity investors in some of the largest leveraged buyouts in Europe. We form private equity funds and are active in the international capital markets and securities regulation.

Finance

Kirkland represents borrowers, lenders and issuers on major finance transactions throughout Europe. Our London office focuses primarily on acquisition finance, debt restructuring, capital markets, high-yield issuance and general syndicated lending.

Restructuring

The European restructuring group in London represents all major stakeholders including debtors, financial creditors, shareholders, directors (including non-bank funds), turnaround advisors and insolvency appointees in all aspects of multijurisdictional restructurings, insolvency proceedings and distressed investing.

Tax

Kirkland's London tax practice, which is integral to its transactional practice, advises on sophisticated domestic and international transactions, including corporate mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, debt and equity financings and the formation of funds.

International Arbitration

The London office represents clients in high profile English high court litigation matters and in major international and domestic arbitrations under the auspices of all leading arbitral organisations, such as the ICC, LCIA and SIAC, as well as those responsible for more specialised forms of arbitration, like the Iran United States Claims Tribunal. In addition, the London office regularly represents clients in ad hoc arbitrations, including arbitrations pursuant to the UNCITRAL rules and in bilateral investment treaty arbitrations.  Finally, our partners have particular experience in cross-border corporate fraud investigations.

Intellectual Property

In the intellectual property area, our attorneys handle technically complex patent litigation matters as well as unfair competition, trademark and copyright infringement. In the intellectual property transactional field, the group is involved in national and international matters involving the transfer and commercialization of technology, as well as the acquisition, divestiture and joint venturing of product lines.

Antitrust & Competition

The London office represents clients across a large range of industries on all aspects of EU and UK competition law, including merger control, market dominance, cartel investigations, sector inquiries and antitrust litigation.

Efficient Delivery of Services

Kirkland's entrepreneurial culture is central to the growth of our Firm. As an integrated part of a firm with approximately 1,600 lawyers, Kirkland's London office can commit the full resources of an international firm to any matter, as appropriate. We provide our UK and international clients with high-quality legal services through a combination of experience, efficiency and innovation.
