Kevin’s Career Story

The energy at Kirkland is something that stood out from day one. The attorneys here have an incredible drive, and people truly enjoy their work. You can’t help but share in their enthusiasm when you see people so immersed in what they do. It is awesome to be working with such driven individuals on a day-to-day basis.

Senior attorneys devote a substantial amount of time to the Firm’s formal training programs, which have contributed to my continuing legal education. In my group, they recently introduced a podcast to make training even more accessible and interesting. We have dedicated professionals who are always working to make sure we are all up to speed with the latest developments in the industry. It’s an innovative way to ensure that attorneys are well trained and is a testament to how much the Firm values training.

You have the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting and significant matters in the legal field. It is a true meritocracy here — you get substantive experience early, and the Firm provides you with the tools and mentoring you need to succeed.

I’ve had the opportunity to work on some of the biggest funds advised by the Investment Funds Group. At the same time, I get to work with other types of clients, including those where I have more extensive interactions with their senior employees, including at times with their founders. The fact that Kirkland provides these varied opportunities is incredible, and the Firm provides you with the support you need. The substantive and interesting nature of the work is what drew me here, and I have not been disappointed.

At Kirkland, taking ownership of our work is emphasized. The open assignment system provides attorneys with a lot of flexibility on how we want to shape our careers. We figure out what assignments we want to work on, what we find intellectually stimulating, and we do it with the people we jibe well with. You have the option to choose the type of work and the type of clients, which has been a very rewarding experience and has helped me develop as a lawyer.

The Firm has a great reputation, and our lawyers are held to a high standard internally by colleagues and externally by clients, which provides a great source of motivation to continue improving. Working to meet those expectations and standards helps me grow.
