Culture

Kirkland is filled with highly motivated, dedicated, and smart people. We approach challenges with enthusiasm and excitement instead of reticence. I am never underwhelmed by the work that is entrusted to us by our clients. It keeps me on my toes — and it keeps things exciting.

Training

When I was deciding which law firm was right for me, I looked hard at the training each firm offered. I knew that as a junior associate, you aren’t going to get certain experiences outside of a training environment, like serving as lead counsel on a trial. Kirkland’s training programs have a fantastic reputation, but I was happily surprised that they surpassed even my highest expectations. Before I ever deposed a real witness, I performed several mock depositions in Kirkland’s training program. Before I ever wrote a witness examination outline for trial, I created several for Kirkland’s Institute for Trial Advocacy (KITA). We have the invaluable resource of learning from senior partners who are open books when it comes to sharing their experiences.

Opportunities

The Firm’s superb reputation has been built by the scores of lawyers that have practiced here. Associates at Kirkland have the great benefit of standing on the shoulders of giants. I am proud to work for our clients, who are all industry leaders in their respective fields, and who entrust us with their most sensitive, important, and high-stakes opportunities.

Most matters settle before they ever reach a jury, but almost every matter I have worked on has resulted in a jury trial, and I have been a trial team member each time. There are several attorneys at Kirkland whom I have to thank for that, but the autonomy of the open assignment system has also played a significant role in allowing me to choose the kind of work that I enjoy most.

Experience

Being an indispensable and appreciated member of a high-performing team is one of the greatest joys of my work. I feel that sensation the most in trial environments, where the success of the team depends on each individual’s strengths. I have been lucky to be a member of six trial teams so far in my time at Kirkland.

I genuinely love the work and the people I work with. I have had professional experiences that go so far above and beyond what I thought would be available to me at a large law firm, and I know that I am growing with each of those experiences.
