Ian N. Bushner is a partner in the M&A/Private Equity Practice Group. He was a partner in Kirkland’s Chicago office before relocating to Boston as a founding partner of the Firm’s Boston office in 2017. Ian focuses his practice on meeting the corporate and transactional needs of private equity sponsors and public and private companies in structuring, negotiating, and executing a variety of complex domestic and cross-border business transactions. These include public and private mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, leveraged buyouts, going-private transactions, carve-out transactions, spinoffs, initial public offerings and other capital markets transactions, distressed acquisitions, special situations, joint ventures and alliances, recapitalization and restructuring transactions, private financings, PIPE investments, licensing transactions, and other investment transactions.
Ian has represented a variety of financial sponsors, including Bain Capital Private Equity, Bain Capital Credit, Centerbridge Partners, Madison Dearborn Partners, TPG, H.I.G. Capital, Apollo Global Management, Thomas H. Lee Partners, Hellman & Friedman, Thoma Bravo, Owl Rock Capital, CarVal Investors, Behringer Harvard, as well as many of their respective portfolio companies. In addition, Ian has handled transactions for corporate clients such as Diversey, Varsity Brands, Blue Nile, Buck Global, Taminco, Fortune Brands, Inteliquent, Baxter, Baxalta, General Dynamics, General Motors, GE Capital, Hertz, US Foods, The Lonza Group, NPS Pharmaceuticals, and Obagi Medical Products.
Ian has experience with transactions in a number of industries, including automotive, biotechnology, business to business services, chemicals, clean energy, consumer, defense & aerospace, entertainment, government contracts, health care, industrials, investment management, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, real estate, retail, software, and technology.
Ian also has an active pro bono practice with a particular focus on social entrepreneurship and complex business transactions involving non-profit organizations, including development finance in Africa. For these efforts, Kirkland honored Ian as the Firm’s Pro Bono Partner of the Year in 2019.
