Shane Cranley is an associate in the Antitrust and Competition Team based in London. His experience concerns all aspects of the EU and UK competition law regimes, including merger control, antitrust advisory work, cartel investigations and competition law compliance. Shane also has extensive experience advising on State aid matters, in particular relating to EU Member States’ tax measures.

Advising BC Partners on its acquisition of a majority stake in United Group, a leading media and communication services provider across Southeast Europe, from KKR.
Advising Blackstone and Telereal Trillium on the £1.46 billion privatisation of Network Rail’s commercial estate.
Advising EQT Partners on its sale of leading medical device company HTL-Strefa (‘HTL’) to Investindustrial.
Advising Toys ’R’ Us on the sale of its stores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to toy retailer Smyths.
Advising Tenneco Inc. on its $5.25 billion acquisition of Federal-Mogul LLC.
Prior to joining Kirkland, Shane worked on the following matters:
Merger Control
Advising Public Sector Pension Plan of Canada and OTPP on their joint venture with Santander and the acquisition of a global portfolio of Santander’s renewable energy projects, including onshore wind and solar projects.
Acting for a client in the energy sector on the acquisition of a trading arm of a major investment bank
Advising a large mobile network operator on an acquisition of a rival operator in Europe
Advising a client in the energy sector on numerous acquisitions requiring multinational filings
Acting for Siemens AG on €2.2 billion acquisition of Invensys Rail.

Advising a multinational technology client in relation to an investigation by the European Commission into fiscal State aid
Acting for a multinational technology client in relation to an application for annulment of the European Commission’s decision to the General Court
