John is a partner in the IP litigation team in London. He has extensive experience advising clients on commercial and enforcement issues across all IP rights and a vast range of sectors and subject matter. His main expertise lie in global high tech patent litigation involving telecommunications, computer systems and software technologies.

John’s previous case experience gives him special insight into technologies utilising communication network operations and protocols (particularly web technologies), content delivery systems, mobile device software, electronic storage drives and user interfaces – with disputes often involving Non-Practising Entities and Standard Essential Patents. His academic background also sets him apart when advising on high tech disputes. In particular, he is well-known for his advice on FRAND licensing and open source software issues.

Clients appreciate his granular knowledge of technologies and his strategic thinking in complex disputes. He is recognised as a Rising Star in IP by Managing Intellectual Property and was previously recommended by The Legal 500 as “bright, thoughtful and hard-working.”
