Megan New is a trial lawyer in Kirkland's Chicago office, where she focuses on complex intellectual property litigation covering a range of technologies, products, and industries. Megan has extensive experience with Lanham Act cases, which includes trying trademark infringement and false advertising cases to favorable verdicts for her clients, obtaining temporary restraining orders, and successfully defending against preliminary injunctions. Megan was recently a critical member of a Kirkland trial team that obtained a $764 million jury verdict for the client in a closely-watched trade secret case. Megan also plays a key role in the firm’s patent infringement practice, where she focuses on patent damages and remedies. Megan’s practice also includes counseling clients on all aspects of trademark and advertising law, including managing trademark portfolios and counseling advertisers with respect to advertising claim substantiation and adherence to FTC guidelines and regulations.

Megan has an active pro bono practice and has repeatedly been awarded with the firm’s pro bono service award. Early in her career, Megan handled a criminal appeal where, through a successful Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court, she obtained a new sentence for her client. Her pro bono practice also includes representing and protecting her clients’ IP rights in federal and state court, defending clients against claims of fraud, working with victims of domestic violence, and immigration cases.
