Kirkland & Ellis LLP is proud to announce that the Firm will be the Lead Mentor Corporate Sponsor of Everybody Wins! DC (EW!DC) for its children's mentoring and literacy (Power Lunch) program at Marie Reed Community Learning Center in The District of Columbia.
Everybody Wins! DC's executive director Mary Salander commented on the expanded partnership:
"Kirkland & Ellis is one of the leading philanthropic law firms in the country and the children at Marie Reed Community Learning Center will benefit greatly from this sponsorship. For the past decade, two to three dozen Kirkland employees have volunteered one hour of their time on a weekly basis to read and mentor underserved students during their lunch hour. In the Kirkland spirit, those same employees have held book drives that generated hundreds of books, which were then distributed to participating students."
"We are thrilled to be the lead mentor corporate sponsor for the Marie Reed Community Learning Center. We have worked with Everybody Wins! DC for 16 years. It's a partnership that has been as rewarding for our employees as for the children who benefit from additional one-on-one attention, and we intend to continue our efforts for many years to come," said Mark Director, Kirkland partner and member of the EW!DC Board of Directors.
With Kirkland & Ellis LLP as the Lead Mentor Corporate Sponsor, the Power Lunch program at Marie Reed will serve 130 students during the 2010-2011 school year. Currently, 119 students are participating in the program and 24 Kirkland employees volunteer as reading mentors.
