Kirkland & Ellis International LLP is pleased to announce that Shaun Goodman and Sarah Jordan have joined the Firm as partners in the London office.
Shaun has 15 years of experience advising on all aspects of EU and UK competition law, including merger control, market dominance, cartel investigations, sector inquiries and private enforcement. He regularly represents clients before the European Commission, the UK Office of Fair Trading, the UK Competition Commission and the UK sectoral regulators. He also has significant experience in competition-related litigation before the English High Court and the specialist UK Competition Appeal Tribunal.
Shaun advised Lafarge on its recently announced $2.8 billion joint venture with Anglo American to create a leading UK construction materials company, and represented Euronext on its $20 billion merger with the New York Stock Exchange. Outside the merger arena, he acted for American Express in the EC financial services sector inquiry, and for British Airways in successfully obtaining the closure of a UK antitrust investigation of its corporate discounting practices.
"Shaun's antitrust, competition litigation and regulation experience are valuable assets for our U.S., European and UK clients and enhance our already strong global antitrust platform. We are delighted that Shaun has joined us," said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland & Ellis.
"I am excited about this new opportunity at Kirkland & Ellis, which has an outstanding international team of antitrust and competition attorneys, and tremendous experience handling complex matters in both litigation and transaction clearance," said Mr. Goodman.
Chambers UK ranks Shaun as a leading practitioner in Competition/European Law ("Shaun Goodman has established a respected practice, and is lauded for his 'depth of knowledge and ability to present views in a robust and convincing manner'"), and Legal 500 UK considers him "'extremely impressive,' 'incredibly responsive,' [and] a 'clear communicator.'"
Sarah Jordan will join Mr. Goodman as a partner in Kirkland's London office. Sarah's experience covers the full range of European and UK competition law, advising on cartels, mergers, antitrust and state aid issues for European and U.S. clients. She recently acted for United Airlines on its $3.2 billion merger with Continental Airlines, for Anheuser-Busch on its $52 billion merger with InBev and for Schering-Plough on its $41 billion acquisition by Merck.
"Shaun and Sarah's move to Kirkland bolsters our competition offering across the globe. They are a welcome addition to our European and UK team," said James Learner, corporate partner in Kirkland's London office.
