Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that capital markets attorney Richard Aftanas has joined the New York office as a partner in the Corporate Practice Group.

Mr. Aftanas represents issuers in a wide variety of public and private finance transactions. He has worked on numerous initial public offerings and other public and private equity securities offerings, as well as high-yield and investment grade debt offerings. He also advises U.S. and international clients with respect to corporate and securities law matters, as well as spin-offs, debt tender offers, exchange offers and other refinancing transactions. Mr. Aftanas joins Kirkland from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.
His recent representations include: Moelis & Company, El Pollo Loco and NextEra Energy Partners in their recent initial public offerings; All Aboard Florida Holdings, Florida East Coast Corp. and Florida East Coast Industries, portfolio companies of Fortress Investment Group, in high-yield offerings raising more than $1.5 billion; Cemex, S.A.B. de C.V. in numerous high-yield offerings; Valeant Pharmaceuticals International in its $2.3 billion public equity offering and $3.2 billion high-yield offering to finance a portion of Valeant’s acquisition of Bausch & Lomb Holdings; and Newcastle Investment Corp. in the spin-off of New Residential Investment Corp. and the pending spin-off of New Senior Investment Group.
