Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Yi-Chin Ho has joined the Firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the Litigation Practice Group.
“Yi-Chin is a dynamic and skilled lawyer with a strong reputation for representing Chinese companies on complex matters both in the United States and overseas,” said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland’s Global Management Executive Committee. “She will be a great asset to the Los Angeles office and to our global litigation practice.”
Ms. Ho represents Chinese companies based in the United States and abroad in complex litigation and government investigations in the areas of antitrust and trade regulation, white collar and securities law, class action, intellectual property and other complex cross-border matters. She has litigated commercial disputes at all stages including arbitrations, mediations, court and jury trials, and appeals in federal and state courts throughout the country, as well as before the California Court of Appeal, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court. Ms. Ho has specific cross-cultural negotiations experience leading complex litigation matters to settlement and dispute resolution on behalf of Chinese companies. She also represents Chinese businesses and investors on cross-border business expansion plans and investing in the United States, and has assisted U.S. companies with foreign direct investment in Greater China.
Ms. Ho also regularly acts as outside general counsel for Chinese companies in managing and coordinating worldwide multi-jurisdictional litigation and corporate matters. Working in conjunction with Chinese and Taiwanese government agencies and regulatory authorities, she has conducted U.S. antitrust training and compliance seminars in Mandarin Chinese for Chinese businesses and their in-house counsel.
“Yi-Chin is the total package — she has a strong understanding of Chinese businesses, U.S. law, cross-border investigations, compliance and dispute resolution, and the ability to communicate in fluent English, Mandarin and Taiwanese. She will be an asset to a broad range of our clients, and in particular, those with business interests in or intersecting with China. We are delighted she has joined us,” said Mark Filip, a Kirkland litigation partner and member of the Firm’s Global Management Executive Committee.
“We are thrilled to welcome Yi-Chin to the Los Angeles office. She brings unique experience and skills working with Chinese companies on complex disputes around the world that are a wonderful complement to our Firmwide antitrust and competition practice and our growing litigation group on the West Coast,” said Mark Holscher, a partner in Kirkland’s Los Angeles office.
Ms. Ho, formerly a partner with Latham & Watkins LLP in Los Angeles, is the second litigator to join Kirkland’s Los Angeles office this year. In April, Kirkland litigation partner Kimberly Branscome relocated to Los Angeles from the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
Ms. Ho holds a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she was the note and development editor for the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal, and a B.A. with distinction from the University of California, Berkeley. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese fluently.
Ms. Ho was recently recognized as one of the “Top Women Litigators in California” for representing Chinese companies in high profile and high stakes cross-border antitrust price-fixing matters.
