Prior to rejoining Kirkland in 2010, John worked as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois for more than eleven years, serving as a supervisor in the office from 2005-2010. In 2005, John became a Deputy Chief, supervising several AUSAs on all matters, including investigations and prosecutions involving organized criminal street gangs, fraud schemes and corrupt public officials. In that role, he oversaw the prosecution of hundreds of defendants, to include counseling AUSAs on trial strategy and reviewing and approving charging documents and plea agreements. He also served as the office's Violent Crime Coordinator, leading the District's Anti-Gang and Project Safe Neighborhoods programs.

John is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago Law School, where he teaches a seminar on "Federal Criminal Practice."
