Kirkland Wins Asylum for LGBT Russian Young Adult

On January 20, 2015, Kirkland won asylum for Mr. D, a 25-year-old gay Russian who was forced to seek refuge in the United States in 2012 after being knocked unconscious by strangers outside a gay bar and ridiculed by police in St. Petersburg. Mr. D filed for asylum in 2013 with the assistance of litigation associates Madelyn Morris and Thayne Stoddard under the supervision of intellectual property partner Joseph Loy. Since arriving in the United States, Mr. D has worked as a waiter in New York City and is in a loving relationship. He calls the Kirkland attorneys who worked on his case “real life savers.”
