Kirkland is incredibly dynamic and a great place to be if you want a role where your work is visible, your contributions are recognized and you are constantly growing.”

Julie started her career in accounting and consulting and then moved into a financial role for a major insurance company before bringing her skills to Kirkland.

How would you describe Kirkland’s culture?

Kirkland’s culture is high-performing and collaborative. Everyone is exceptionally talented and driven but also deeply team-oriented. The pace is fast and the work is intellectually challenging, but there is a shared commitment to working through problems together.

What do you enjoy most about working at Kirkland?

First, the people — my practice finance colleagues are hardworking, genuinely kind and supportive. We work closely as a team, as well as with attorneys and other business services professionals. Everyone I interact with is curious and engaged, which makes a real difference in how you experience work each day.

Second, I find the role itself so interesting. There is always something new to learn, a more complex problem to work through or a better way to approach something, and that keeps me energized.

Describe a typical day in your role.

One of the best parts of my job is that each day is a little different! Depending on the time of year, as well as leadership and attorney needs, a day could be filled with a mix of projects: evaluating the Firm’s outstanding assets and identifying trends and insights, supporting attorneys in fulfilling client financial data requests, or developing new tools and reports to help attorneys manage the financial aspects of their work. In the two years I’ve been with the Firm, my team’s work has evolved as we expand our reach, adopt new technologies and respond to business challenges.

How did your background in various finance roles prepare you for your current role?

Beginning my career in public accounting, I built a strong foundation in financial acumen, grew comfortable communicating with senior leaders, and sharpened my attention to detail and organizational skills — all of which I have relied on daily throughout my career. My time at a public company taught me how to tell stories with financial data, and my experience at a startup gave me the opportunity to develop new processes and reporting from the ground up, as well as build out a team.

What would you tell others considering a job at Kirkland?

Kirkland is incredibly dynamic and a great place to be if you want a role where your work is visible, your contributions are recognized and you are constantly growing. The Firm really embraces an entrepreneurial mindset: If you take initiative and work hard, the opportunities are endless. The people you meet along the way make it even more worthwhile.

How has your role influenced the Firm’s success?

Attorneys have significant demands on their time, so giving them clear, accessible financial information about their practices and client relationships has real value. It’s very rewarding when we receive feedback that the reporting we share helps them with decision-making.

What’s the best career advice you’ve received?

Always have a point of view. It sounds simple, but it’s never too soon to start. It’s easy early in a career to default to presenting information and waiting for others to draw conclusions. The most valuable thing you can do is come to the table with a perspective and be willing to defend it. The people here are engaged and opinionated in the best sense, which makes it a great environment to put that advice into practice.
