Kirkland & Ellis is a proud sponsor of the Fourth UC Berkeley Islamic Finance Forum Ethics & Regulation: Critical Approaches to Islamic Banking conference that will be held on April 9, 2011 at the University of California at Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in Berkeley, California. The day-long forum will explore issues related to Shari’ah-compliant finance, examining challenges facing Islamic banking in the world today – both within the United States and internationally.

Panelists will address Islamic mortgage financing, limitations on capital business structure, as well as Islamic finance’s potential for micro-finance and poverty alleviation. Additionally, panelists will discuss the grass-roots development and regulatory challenges of the Islamic banking industry within the United States. Finally, the forum will examine the conformity of the industry to Islamic ethics.

Kirkland partners Ahmed Arshad and Abrar Hussain will be panelists at the event.
