Patrick Castle is a partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. His practice focuses on litigation, trials and investigations in both civil and criminal contexts. As a former federal prosecutor, Patrick helps businesses and executives navigate and mitigate legal threats, and effectively enforce their legal rights, through a combination of investigative rigor, thoughtful advocacy and courtroom acumen.
Patrick has served as a lead attorney in 10 federal jury trials, over 20 federal appeals (including multiple oral arguments) and countless disputed hearings and evidentiary proceedings. While an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Michigan, Patrick led scores of investigations, working with federal agencies including the FBI, ATF, DEA, HSI, FDA, HHS and IRS. He also served as the U.S. Attorney's Office's Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property counsel, responsible for advising on cybercrime, intellectual property, electronic evidence and related issues.
Patrick also has substantial experience handling complex business disputes having spent years in private practice representing clients in state, federal and arbitral forums. Patrick has litigated claims involving director and officer liability, fiduciary duties, insurance coverage, biometric privacy, business torts, breach of contract and more. He has also handled matters across a range of industries and commercial contexts, including financial services, manufacturing, real estate development, industrial equipment leasing, and print and television media.
