Overview

Terra Cothran is a partner in the Houston office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Her practice is focused on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) law and related complex energy infrastructure transactions. Terra has negotiated and drafted a wide variety of construction-related agreements, including EPC agreements, FEED agreements, complex engineered equipment supply agreements, long-term services agreements, and operations and maintenance agreements. She has extensive experience advising clients in the development of their large-scale energy and infrastructure projects located in the United States and abroad, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities, crude oil pipelines, offshore oil production facilities, solar projects, and petrochemical plants, with an aggregate career deal total of approximately $150 billion in value spanning projects across six continents — including the U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

In addition to being a lawyer, Terra has direct operational experience in the LNG sector. She previously served as Commercial Manager for an international contractor’s LNG business line, where she directed the negotiation and commercial strategy for multibillion dollar LNG contracts. Terra also served as a Project Manager on a major LNG project. Prior to joining Kirkland, she worked in-house at both an international energy company and several international contractors, acting as the primary legal negotiator and on-project advisor on global mega-projects.
