Jaywin Singh Malhi is a litigation partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Jaywin represents clients in complex commercial litigation, government enforcement actions, and regulatory and internal investigations. He maintains a robust pro bono practice, with a focus on civil rights, criminal and immigration matters.
Most recently, Jaywin served as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division at the United States Department of Justice, where he litigated voting rights cases, investigated and enforced compliance with federal law and monitored elections around the country. Previously, he served as a law clerk to Judge Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr. on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Judge David C. Godbey on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Before that, he graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he served on the Board of Student Advisers, and summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University, where he served as Student Body Vice President.
Jaywin is committed to fostering a more diverse, inclusive legal community. To that end, he is a founding board member of the Sikh National Bar Association and former Secretary and Judiciary Committee Chair of the South Asian Bar Association of New York. Informally, he mentors countless pre-law and law students and early-career attorneys.
