Overview

James McGivern is a debt finance partner in the London office of Kirkland & Ellis International LLP. He has extensive experience in core and regulated infrastructure financing across loans, public bonds, private placements and derivatives, regularly advising borrowers on all aspects of their complex whole business securitisations and multi-source financing platforms.

Since joining Kirkland, James has been involved in the following matters:

  • Solör Bioenergy Group on SEK 22 billion long term financing
  • Beacon Rail on its acquisition of Mitsui Rail Capital Europe
  • A consortium led by Sandbrook Capital on the acquisition of NeXtWind Capital

Prior to joining Kirkland, James was involved in the following matters:

  • Anglian Water Group on the establishment of its investment grade rated MidCo financing platform
  • Anglian Water Group on its debut sustainability-linked bond, the first issuance of a sustainability linked bond by a UK water utility
  • Anglian Water Group on the establishment of a new HoldCo financing
  • Anglian Water Group on its debut green bond and all subsequent green bonds
  • Budapest Airport on its €1.4 billion common terms refinancing
  • Southern Water on the financing aspects of its majority purchase by Macquarie Asset Management
  • DP World and Antwerp Gateway on its common terms refinancing
  • The Arrangers on TDC NET’s debut €500m sustainability-linked bond issue
  • The lenders on the financing for GIP’s acquisition of a stake in SGN
  • The institutional lenders on a HoldCo financing for a Finnish utility asset
  • Thames Water on its €1.15 billion dual tranche green bond issuance
  • IFM Investors on the financing aspects of its equity injection into Manchester Airports Group
  • The hedging provider in respect of the financing of a portfolio of care homes
  • Brookfield Real Estate on its CMBS financing for Student Roost
  • The lenders to Portsmouth Water on its OpCo and HoldCo financings in respect of the Havant Thicket reservoir
  • South East Water on its HoldCo refinancing
  • Yorkshire Water on its inflation swap repackaging and sale of index-linked cash flows to a group of pension funds
