Jay McKiever is a corporate associate in the Dallas office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP with a focus on construction and construction-related transactions. Jay primarily represents project owners, developers, lenders and investors in a wide range of construction transactions and other related project matters. His experience includes drafting and negotiating numerous types of construction, design and consulting contracts, as well as other project-related documents for various project types and delivery methods.
Jay has a particular focus on commercial, healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, and energy and infrastructure-related projects and developments. He also has extensive experience working on projects in the office/retail, multifamily, mixed-use, sports and entertainment, and various other sectors of the real estate and construction industries. From preparing procurement and solicitation documents to drafting complex design and construction documents and assisting with project close-out matters, Jay represents both private and public clients throughout all stages of the project life cycle. He is familiar with guiding public entities through the tedious procurement process, and providing clients with practical insight and resolution to the various legal issues and project-specific matters encountered throughout the design and construction process.
Before entering the legal profession, Jay earned his master’s degree in civil engineering, worked as a geotechnical engineer and forensic engineer, and operated a construction and real estate development company. His advanced engineering degrees and extensive hands-on experience in construction, engineering and project management allow him to better understand his clients’ needs, evaluate risks and offer creative, effective and efficient solutions for their and construction and development efforts.
