Overview

Ranulf Outhwaite is an antitrust and competition associate in the London office of Kirkland & Ellis International LLP.

Ranulf’s practice focuses on EU and UK competition law, including digital regulation, anticompetitive agreements, abuse of dominance rules and merger control.

Ranulf has represented clients before the European Commission and the CMA, and in litigation before the European Courts and the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal.

Ranulf’s experience covers a range of industries, including the technology, finance, utilities, retail and transport sectors.

Prior to joining Kirkland, Ranulf was involved in the following matters:

  • Google in relation to a wide range of matters, including:
    • the European Commission’s investigation into Google Play under the Digital Markets Act.
    • the CMA’s SMS investigation into Google’s mobile platform.
    • the CMA’s investigation into Privacy Sandbox.
    • the CMA’s Competition Act investigation into Google Play.
  • Amazon, in relation to its defence of collective proceedings before the Competition Appeal Tribunal relating to the retail sale of Apple products.
  • Thales on the CMA’s Phase 2 conditional clearance of the €1.7 billion sale of its GTS business to Hitachi Rail.
  • Veolia on the CMA’s Phase 2 conditional clearance of its €12.9 billion acquisition of Suez.
