Anna Swanson is a litigation associate in the Houston office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where she focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, white collar defense and internal investigations. In addition to representing individuals and companies, prior to joining Kirkland’s Litigation Practice Group, Anna served in law enforcement as an Assistant United States Attorney and as a police officer for the Houston Police Department.

Since joining Kirkland, Anna has been involved in the following representative matters:
Investigated cross-border tax evasion allegations on behalf of a major financial institution and coordinated responses to U.S. agencies.
Provided counsel to major financial institution related to internal investigations of U.S. tax exposure and compliance issues.
Counsel to large healthcare company in False Claims Act and FCPA investigations.
Conducted risk assessment for international retail corporation in anti-corruption matters.
Internal investigations involving fraud claims under the Securities Exchange Act.
Represented U.S.-based alternative asset management firm in SEC and DOJ FCPA investigation involving allegations in South Asia.
Counsel to alternative asset manager in connection with DOJ and SEC investigations into bribery allegations in China raised by internal whistleblower.
Counsel for creditor in defending standing and conversion motions in Chapter 11 cases pending in the District of Delaware.
Prior to joining Kirkland, Anna was involved in the following representative matters:
Served on a trial team representing a high-ranking officer of a petroleum company who faced federal white collar criminal investigation and indictment.
Successfully litigated a trial to verdict and argued a variety of hearings in federal court representing the United States.
Helped lead a counter-child-sex trafficking project for the International Justice Mission in Mombasa, Kenya, Africa where she worked with investigators and prosecutors on effective investigation and adjudication of sex trafficking crimes in the coastal region of Kenya. With International Justice Mission Anna helped to support survivors of human trafficking through the process of justice and restoration.

Secured a dismissal in Texas state court of a debt collection against an individual.
Represented a state human rights entity in an investigation into systemic police misconduct and drafted the recommendations on police reform for the city’s police department.
Represented a nurse working in an incarceration facility in an employment termination dispute and secured the nurse’s job position back after an appeal to the county sheriff’s department.
