On an annual basis, Chambers & Partners conducts extensive research and thorough data analysis in compiling their objective list of recommended worldwide legal practitioners. In the regional review of leading firms in "Intellectual Property," Kirkland & Ellis ranked first.  This ranking reflects the opinion of the marketplace as revealed by Chambers' systematic and objective research.

Chambers' comments:

Chicago Ranking: 1

The Firm: One of the country's largest IP litigation teams (20 partners, based in Chicago, New York, LA and the capital, and 30 associates) is noted for its appellate court experience, and the LA and Washington offices recently handled Motorola's successful defense of a patenet infringement suit brought by Interdigital Technology.

The Lawyers: Chicago-based Bill Streff has a burgeoning litigation reputation, as well as handling antitrust work for such clients as Hitachi.  Transactional work ranges from work on behalf of overseas concerns (such as Telecom New Zealand on its purchase by, inter alia, Ameritech) and acting for large private equity funds, to smaller CLACs such as Allegiance Telecom.

The Clients: Davel Communications, Sabratek, AOL.
