This guide -- which is designed to reflect market opinion -- contains a view of the firms and attorneys who are considered leaders in their field.

In Chambers' 2004-2005 review of national legal talent in the area of "Environment," our Firm and our lawyers are listed among the best in the country.

Chambers' comments:

District of Columbia
Ranking: 5

The Firm: The practice operates on an interdepartmental basis, dividing its focus between litigation and transactional support. The contentious side forms part of what commentators brand the firm's "outstanding national litigation practice." It advises on all aspects of environmental disputes, and is considered particularly prolific in CAA matters. The jewel in its crown, however, is probably the DC-based transactional practice, which supports the firm's environmental practices nationwide. Recent examples of work include assisting Madison Dearborn Partners on the environmental aspects of the acquisition of Jefferson Smurfit Group.

The Lawyers: Walter Lohmann is a leading expert on the environmental aspects of transactional work, and features prominently in many of the firm's most important deals. He focuses on environmental compliance and liability issues arising from corporate and real estate transactions, both nationally and internationally.

The Clients: Bain Capital, ICV Capital Partners and SC Johnson Wax are high-profile clients of the team.
