Now that the dust has settled on the move that was the talk of the funds world recently, the team at Kirkland & Ellis has been building up an impressive book of business in London. Clients are impressed with the team's knowledge base and praise the "compact but absolutely top-quality and highly visible group of lawyers; the firm is really making a mark on the industry." Unlike some other US competitors, Kirkland's broad client base now boasts a range of UK and European funds in addition to its list of US clients working in Europe. The team recently advised Mid Europa Partners on its third buyout fund, which closed in excess of EUR1.5 billion, and acted for Terra Firma on its Terra Firma Capital Partners III fund worth EUR5.4 billion. Richard Watkins advised on both of these matters and is recommended for "his flexibility, commerciality and ability to think quickly on his feet." Clients also appreciate "his ability to articulate complex structuring rationales clearly." Having developed a practice that is international in scope, the London team assisted Pacific Road Management with the formation of the Pacific Road Resources Fund, a global mining exploration fund. Justin Dolling's "robust and practical advice" was employed on this matter. The "creative and commercial" Mark Mifsud heads the practice and enjoys "a stellar reputation in the market." Clients have confidence in his assertive approach as "he knows exactly when and when not to fight battles, all the while focusing on what matters to the client." Vision Capital recently called upon Mifsud to assist with its latest investment vehicle, while other clients to instruct the group include Candover Partners, CVC Capital Partners and Barclays Capital.
