Gold Star Pro Bono Firms

Kirkland was one of nine law firms awarded with Immigration Equality's "Gold Star" status for pro bono services in 2011. To qualify for Gold Star status, a law firm must accept a minimum of five new asylum cases during a calendar year. Kirkland handled seven new cases in 2011.

Together, the Gold Star firms represented one-third of Immigration Equality's new clients in 2011, and won asylum or withholding of removal for 41 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and HIV-positive people fleeing persecution, with additional cases still pending. Immigration Equality is a leading national organization that represents LGBT and HIV-positive asylum seekers.
