Kirkland received the 2012 Advocate Law Firm of the Year award from the Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC), the principal organization in San Francisco that provides counseling and legal help to low-income tenants during the eviction process. In San Francisco, tenants facing eviction from their homes and their landlords are required to attend settlement conferences before an eviction trial. In the last year, the Firm has settled more than 30 matters for EDC clients at these conferences and prepared two other matters for trial, ultimately settling them on the eve of trial. More than a dozen Kirkland partners and associates have donated almost 530 pro bono hours to the EDC. EDC Board President Carolyn Gold applauded Kirkland's pro bono contributions as the first and only firm to volunteer for the organization unsolicited.
