North America Awards
Kirkland was honored for its work on a Milestone Case of the Year at Managing Intellectual Property's eighth annual North America Awards, which were held in Washington, D.C., on March 18, 2015. Kirkland was recognized as co-counsel to Oracle in Oracle America v. Google. In May 2014, the Federal Circuit, reversing an earlier district court decision, ruled that elements of Oracle's Java application programming interfaces were entitled to copyright protection as, among other things, they reflect numerous creative choices by programmers.
The IP Awards reflect the best firms and attorneys within Managing Intellectual Property's World IP survey, which covers 75 international jurisdictions. The award winners were chosen by the magazine's research team, based on extensive interviews with peers and clients.
