Beacon of Justice Award 2024

The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) honored Kirkland & Ellis with a 2024 “Beacon of Justice Award,” which recognizes law firms doing extensive pro bono work related to civil and human rights.

In 2023, the Firm devoted significant time and talent to immigration-related pro bono matters. Kirkland and the National Immigration Justice Center reached a historic settlement with the U.S. government that established a timeline for making asylum application decisions for approximately 20,000 Afghan asylum-seekers. Our attorneys also continued to help former students and alumnae of the Asian University for Women apply for asylum and find a legal path to U.S. residency. Throughout 2023, Kirkland teams served the immigration needs of more than 330 clients, whose countries of origin include Chad, Nigeria, Venezuela, Pakistan, Jamaica and many others.
