A large group of lawyers from several law firms are working on American Airlines Inc.'s pending acquisition of the assets of Trans World Airlines Inc. for about $500 million. On Jan. 10, TWA voluntarily filed Chapter 11 petitions in bankruptcy court in Wilmington, Del., and American, a subsidiary of Fort Worth-based AMR Corp., announced it would acquire TWA's assets for about $500 million.

TWA is using lawyers from Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago. Willard Fraumann, partner in mergers and acquisitions, leads the team. Also on the deal are partners Andrew Kaufman, Kenneth Morrison, James Sprayregen, Marc Kieselstein, William Kirsch, James Rowe, Vicki Hood, Toni Merrick, Walter Lohmann and Donald Rocap, and associates Kevin Davis, Elizabeth Davidson, Andres Mena, Marc Carmel, David Seligman, and David Kung.
