Standing Up for a Little Guy Who Bet the Farm and Won
John O’Quinn is quoted regarding Kirkland’s work for California raisin farmers in Horne v. Dept. of Agriculture and the Firm’s U.S. Supreme Court win. The matter is profiled in the publication's annual "U.S. Innovative Lawyers" report.
"'This might have been seen as a typical agricultural or property rights case but it had a wider relevance,' Mr O’Quinn said.
The second innovation was procedural — the firm accepted an earlier defeat on remand at the ninth circuit so the case could return more quickly to the Supreme Court while the justices had the dispute fresh in their minds. 'This was vindication for the Hornes who literally bet the farm and were willing to stand up to the government,' says Mr O’Quinn."
