House Clears Landmark North Korea Sanctions Bill
On February 12, 2016, the House voted in favor of a package of sanctions targeting North Korea and foreign businesses that conduct certain trade with the country, clearing the measure for signing by President Barack Obama.
“...The fact that Congress has stepped into this policy vacuum so forcefully in proposing mandatory secondary sanctions, which in itself is an anomaly, I think sends a very strong message to the administration,” said Mario Mancuso, a sanctions expert who held a number of senior-level national security jobs during the George W. Bush administration.
