U.S. lawyers line up to aid Ukrainians with immigration relief
This article from Reuters discusses a volunteer effort being organized by Kirkland and Lawyers for Good Government in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Nearly 2,000 lawyers at more than 100 law firms and companies plan to join the project aimed at helping Ukrainians living in the United States obtain temporary deportation relief and work permits.
"The [Biden] administration estimates 75,000 Ukrainians will be eligible for the [Temporary Protected Status] program. While they can apply on their own, a lawyer can help them navigate the process and advise on other immigration relief that may be available, said Jacqueline Haberfeld, Kirkland's pro bono counsel and a coordinator of the Ukraine effort."
