Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout-Outs

Mark Holscher, Sierra Elizabeth and Edward Hillenbrand were recognized as runners-up for The American Lawyer Litigation Daily's "Litigator of the Week" for their pro bono work for the parents and guardians of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) students.

A pro bono team at Kirkland & Ellis team led by Mark Holscher, Sierra Elizabeth and Edward Hillenbrand has been representing a class of nearly 160,000 parents of guardians of students in the Los Angeles Unified School District in a lawsuit claiming distance learning policies the district adopted during COVID-19 school closures violated students’ constitutional and statutory rights. This week, a state court judge in Los Angeles signed off on a settlement in the case that will provide 100,000 of the district’s most vulnerable students access to at least 45 hours of high-dose tutoring per year over a three-year period to remediate the ongoing harm caused by the policies."
