Jury Returns $105.9 Million Verdict in Favor of Kirkland & Ellis Client Schlumberger and Subsidiary WesternGeco

On August 16, 2012, a Houston jury returned a $105.9 million verdict in a patent infringement case for WesternGeco LLC, a subsidiary of Kirkland & Ellis LLP client Schlumberger. The dispute involved four marine seismic surveying patents asserted against a competing equipment manufacturer, ION Geophysical Corp. After a four-week trial, the jury found that all four patents were willfully infringed and confirmed their validity.  Partner Gregg LoCascio led the trial team.
